Applications are being accepted for a Physical Science Teacher.  The individual should also have good Mathematical ability.

 

Under direction of the school principal, classroom teachers - plan and provide for appropriate learning experience for students; provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student; supervise students in a variety of school related settings; monitor and evaluate student outcomes; communicate and interact with students, parents, staff and community; implement instruction in a manner consistent with the Goals and Mission of Somerset County Public Schools including understanding, modeling and fostering independent thinking skills, creative problem solving and abstract reasoning; and develops, selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.

 

QUALIFICATION:

  1. Educational Requirements
  2. Bachelor’s degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.
  3. Meets Maryland state certification requirements in appropriate field of education.
  4. Training and Experience Requirements:
    1. Knowledge of SCPS curriculum, techniques for integrating curriculum, SCPS policies, and effective instructional practices.
    2. Understanding of the teaching/learning process.
    3. Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multi-cultural education.
    4. Ability to infuse technology into curriculum.
    5. Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school based staff, students, parents and community.
    6. Excellent oral and written communication and human relation skills.

 

DUTIES:

  1. Teaches subject area according to curriculum guidelines based on State, Federal and Local mandates.
  1. Establishes learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs.
  2. Plans and implements lessons that include all essential components of a good lesson as defined by Somerset County Public Schools.
  3. Incorporates Dimensions of Learning and Maryland Learner Outcomes into daily instruction.
  4. Uses a variety of teaching techniques and strategies.
  5. Diagnoses the learning needs of students on a regular basis for the purpose of prescribing appropriate learning objectives.
  6. Uses technology as in integral part of instruction.
  7. Collaborates with other faculty in delivery of appropriate instructional approaches.
  8. Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a consistent and fair manner.
  9. Takes all necessary precautions to protect students on a regular basis for the purpose of prescribing appropriate learning objectives.
  10. Facilitates in the resolution of problems that might arise with students and parents.
  11. Participates in school management and shares responsibility for the total school program.
  12. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for instruction assistants and volunteers.
  13. Reports student progress objectively and consistently with students and parents.
  14. Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and Somerset County Public Schools policy.
  15. Follows county procedures to requisition textbooks and instructional materials.
  16. Establishes relationships with colleagues, students, parents and community which reflect recognition of and respect for every individual.
  17. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  18. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  19. Ensures that Teaching Certificate is always valid.
  20. Other duties may be assigned by the Building Principal or other official in Administration.
