There is an immediate opening for an EL Family Coordinator. This is a 10-Month position. The position is located at Woodson Elementary, but may require travel to other schools in the district as needed.
Summary – The individual serves to enhance communication and understanding between language minority families and school; clarifying and expanding information regarding school and/or district expectations to language minority families; assisting with families’ requests and/or concerns; and referrals to other agencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned by the Director of Schools or Instructional Supervisor.
- Assists language minority families in locating community resources for the purpose of promoting parent effectiveness and student achievement.
- Assists with the organization and implementation of events and activities for the purpose of enhancing language minority parent involvement.
- Convey parents; questions and concerns to appropriate school/district staff for the purpose of supporting student success and further facilitating communications with parents.
- Conducts monthly meetings as schools and community or frequently as needed.
- Conducts home visits to assist with communication and success of language minority student.
- Publishes parent newsletters and other communications as required.
- Attends conferences at the state and national levels.
- Assists with collection support information from parents in an effort to meet the educational objectives for Title I and III programs.
- Collaborates with other personnel to identify issues and concerns of language minority parents.
- Maintains a log of parent contacts.
- Participates in required in-service activities for the purpose of maintaining and enhancing work related skills.
- Serves as back up receptionist for school when requested.
- Instructionally assists minority language students in the classroom (less than 50% of work day.)
- Provides interpretation services as a bridge between school personnel and minority language families.
- Translates school documents to minority language documents as requested.
- Provides leadership and support to schools and LEAs in the implementation of evidenced-based high impact practices that promote EL family engagement and student achievement.
- Collaborates with other internal offices to identify ELs who may be gifted and talented, at risk, or have special needs by coordinating the provision of services outside of the classroom.
- Facilitates translation services for communication between school personnel, families and community partners through trained translators and interpreters.
- Delivers/coordinates professional training related to cultural competency for school personnel.
- Develops a vision of EL family support and shares with LEAs and all who they collaborate with to ensure consistent understanding and implementation of support.
- Establishes contact with appropriate statewide and local EL support groups to build community,increase awareness of Blueprint and education efforts and engage more EL families in the state education transformation conversation.
- Monitors the implementation of the recommendations of the EL Workgroup
- Assists EL families in working with community partners that provide services and support to the school and families.
- Builds a network of educators, school support staff, and community members who support and advocate for the EL student community and serves as liaison between the LEA, EL families, and community partners.
- Advocates for multilingual families by communicating the needs and concerns of EL families to the school/school system and trains other EL employees to be champions for their unique needs.
- Coordinates the delivery of and/or conducts EL parent workshops/meetings as needed in collaboration with school staff, counselors, and or representatives from community organizations.
- Promotes positive relationships with families and community partners to remove barriers to student enrollment and achievement by ensuring equitable access to programs and services, including EL services.
- Performs other family support/engagement duties as assigned.
- Ensures services are delivered in the community that are requested and identifies any cost

Education and/or Experience
High School Diploma. An Associate’s degree or higher is preferred.
Five years of experience working with and communicating effectively with parents, schools, community and district personnel both orally and in writing.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
A valid driver’s license is required.
Language Skills
Must be able to communicate orally and in writing effectively to a diverse general public. Must be bilingual.
Mathematical Skills
Must have general math skills.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to work effectively with others in all situations as well as must exhibit independent decision making skills. Must be able to work independently with ability to make recommendations to supervisors on improvement opportunities for minority language families to be more involved in the home/school compact.
Computer Skills
Excellent computer skills in all Microsoft Office software products. Must be able to operate all office machinery.
Other Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the school system and the demographics of the County. Fluency in multiple languages preferred.
