Applications are now being accepted for full time Special Education teacher positions. These are permanent positions and available for the 2024-25 school year. Individual must be willing to teach special education students in a variety of content areas and age groups.
SUMMARY OF DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION:
This is a teaching position for the 2024-25 school year. The position comes under the direct supervision of the Principal of the school and indirect supervision by the Supervisor of Special Education. Applicants must have certification as required by the Maryland State Department of Education. Successful candidates should have skills in the areas of behavioral techniques, matching instructional concepts to individual student needs, organizational techniques, and experience working in the field of Special Education.
QUALIFICATION:
Education - Certification as a teacher as indicated by MSDE requirements of Special Education Endorsement.
Training and Experience - Experience and training enabling the applicant to effectively work with moderately to severely involved students.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Knowledge of behavioral techniques and management skills.
- Skills in prescribing techniques which enable students to more effectively interact with others through communication in preparation for eventual entry into less structured settings.
- Knowledge of entry level career opportunities.
- Knowledge of community resources.
- Ability to interact with an array of professionals representing a variety of disciplines and community organizations.
- Knowledge of educational assessment techniques.
- Knowledge of teaching techniques appropriate to assigned students.
- Familiarity with technology appropriate for use by assigned students.
- Understanding of and ability to deal with autistic students.
DUTIES:
- Plan and implement a course of sequential instructional activities for students.
- Complete IEP’s and other administrative requirements for special education documentation.
- Participate in regular meetings regarding program planning and student progress with parents and professionals.
- Plan and implement community based activities as appropriate for student development.
- Other duties as assigned by the principal and/or supervisor.
