We are accepting applications for future potential teaching positions at both Elementary and Secondary levels. Preference will be given to individuals with an active Maryland teaching license.
The teacher is responsible for planning and providing for appropriate learning experiences for students in an atmosphere and environment that is conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development for every student and is consistent with the Goals and Mission of Somerset County Public Schools.
- Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned by the Building Principal or other official in Administration.
Teaches subject area according to curriculum guidelines based on Maryland’s State Curriculum.
- Utilizes modeling, creative problem solving, and abstract reasoning in instruction methods,
- Establishes learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs.
- Plans and implements lessons that include all essential components of a good lesson as defined by Somerset County Public Schools.
- Differentiates instruction into daily lessons.
- Uses a variety of teaching techniques and strategies to ensure student learning success and reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
- Diagnoses the learning needs of students on a regular basis for the purpose of prescribing appropriate learning objectives.
- Uses technology as an integral part of instruction.
- Collaborates with other faculty in delivery of appropriate instructional approaches.
- Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a consistent and fair manner.
- Facilitates in the resolution of problems that might arise with students and parents.
- Participates in the school improvement process.
- Plans and supervises activities of instructional assistants and volunteers in the classroom.
- Reports student progress objectively and consistently with students and parents.
- Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and Somerset County Public Schools policy.
- Follows county procedures to requisition textbooks and instructional materials.
- Establishes relationships with colleagues, students, parents and community which reflect recognition of and respect for every individual.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence by participating in professional development opportunities.
- Ensures that Teaching Certificate is always valid.

Education and/or Experience
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year college or university in an Early Childhood Education program or a Bachelor's desgree and be enrolled in a Maryland -approved alternative teacher preparation program.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Current Maryland State Teaching Certificate with an Early Childhood Endorsement.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional and trade journals, instructional textbooks and instructional aides. Ability to write reports, detailed lesson plans, educational standards and procedure manuals as directed. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, teachers and administrators.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages and averages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Products and Internet based software that is used as instructional aides. Pursues training and development opportunities to expand technology knowledge.

Other Qualifications
Must enjoy working with young age children with multiple perspectives and mult-cultural differences. Must be willing and able to travel to several out of town trainings as requested.
