Applications are being accepted for individuals to serve as short and long term substitute custodians.  A variety of hours and locations are available.

 

Summary:  An employee in this classification performs public building cleaning work.  The employee, with general supervision from a head custodian, performs cleaning functions as assigned.  The work is repetitive and is performed according to schedules and instructions for specific tasks.  Work is evaluated through observation while in progress and inspection of completed assignments.

 

  1.  Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.
    1. Clean and polish furniture and metal including chairs, tables, desks, shelves and other furniture or equipment.
    2. Wash windows, walls, woodwork and blinds.
    3. Sweep, dry and wet mop.
    4. Operate vacuum cleaner, washing machine and other power equipment as directed.
    5. Clean, sanitize and supply materials for restrooms daily.
    6. Spot clean carpeting when visible stains are observed.
    7. Collect and dispose of refuse from classroom, administrative areas, grounds and walkways and all other areas of building property assigned.
    8. Performs additional custodial duties such as, but not limited to, stripping, waxing and buffing floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets and painting.
    9. Cleans and changes light fixtures and bulbs by climbing ladder if necessary.
    10.  Assists in the unloading and moving of instructional and custodial supplies and foodstuff deliveries.
    11.  Removes snow and sands/salts the walkways when necessary.
    12.  Cuts grass and trim shrubbery by operating riding and push mowers and weed trimmers when requested.
    13.  Notifies the head custodian and or principal of necessary repairs that are beyond the scope of custodial personnel and of any situation that endangers the security of the building.
    14.  Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities, Maintenance Supervisor, Head Custodian and Principal and Vice Principal of assigned building.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers; handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear the spoken word up to 25 feet in distance from subject.  The employee is frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee is occasionally required to sit.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places and outside weather conditions.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
