A full time teaching position is available for the 2026-27 school year. Individual must be eligible for Maryland State Department of Education certification in the field or will obtain the certification within one year of hire.
Summary Description of Classification
This is a teaching position for students in a specials rotation setting. An employee in this position must be well versed in all aspects of teaching life skills to students such as cooking, meal planning, financial literacy, health and wellness, family connections and general knowledge of running a productive household. This person should have good classroom management skills and be able to express them self clearly.
Job Goal
To prepare those students enrolled in the class for future college and or career positions. To help students become self sufficient in daily life skills.
Requirements
Educational Requirements - A high school diploma, and Standard Professional Certification as a teacher in Maryland.
Training and Experience - Teacher has one year to be certified in Family and Consumer Sciences.
- Knowledgeable in Special Education laws and requirements when teaching special education students.
- Ability to work well with classroom teachers, and support personnel, on the job.

- Ability to maintain a healthy, happy and learning environment for students.
- The ability to assist students to learn to be productive citizens.
- The ability to teach students to become independent.
- The ability to assist students to make decisions concerning their future through classroom instruction and vocational / trade programs/college interest.
- Ability to complete all duties assigned by building principal or designee.
- The ability to multi-task and provide a variety of engaging lessons.
- Plan a sequential course of study for the students to follow.
- Make lesson plans for the material to be covered each day.
- Keep the office informed as to the attendance of students in the class.
- Keep a clean and neat work area and classroom.
- Order materials necessary to teach the program.
- Give instruction to the class during the entire class period.
- Attend seminars or in-services to keep current on issues involving special education/related services.
- Work with other / support personnel to arrange trips or guest speakers to broaden students horizons when contemplating different work areas or opportunities.
- Teach students social skills and work ethics through classroom instruction.
